Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures
BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the affects of facial wrinkles. Crows feet, worry lines and laugh lines can all be a thing of the past. These are referred to as dynamic wrinkle lines and all are treatable with this procedure. Cosmetic denervation is the process of injecting botox into the tiny facial muscles that create the wrinkles.
To better understand your overall health, we will evaluate your medical history prior to surgery. In addition, a complete examination of your eyes is made in order to decide the most effective injection sites. All issues and concerns will be discussed.
The areas that will be treated are marked and digital photographs are taken in order to determine the amount of improvement after surgery.
The BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are performed without anesthesia because they are virtually painless. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain the effects. Research has suggested, however, that long term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect. Patients over the age of 65 may not experience such dramatic results. BOTOX® Cosmetic is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.
After the operation patients may experience slight bruising around the area that quickly fades. Normal activities can be performed immediately. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles or in rare cases an eyelid may droop. BOTOX® Cosmetic is completely reversible so any side effect is only a temporary condition. The doctor will explain all risks associated at the time of your consultation.
Juvederm™ is an injectable gel indicated for injection into the mid and deep dermis used for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most commonly injectable sites are the nasolabial folds, (laugh lines) smoker’s lines, marionette lines, and vermillion borders of the lips. The regions of the midface and lips are the most commonly injected sites. Juvederm™ is a form of hyaluronic acid (HA). Other examples of HA injectables are Hylaform and Restylane™. Juvederm™;, Juvederm™ Plus, and Juvederm™ Ultra Plus are HA products that have advantages over the previously used Hylafrom™ and Restylane© type products. HA is a natural complex sugar found in all mammals.
It’s a major component of the dermis connective tissue matrix. HA retains water like a sponge, absorbing more than 1000 times its weight. This helps to attract and maintain water, hydrating your skin and increasing its volume and density. HA is also involved with the transport of essential nutrients to the skin’s viable cells. Treatment results are seen instantly and may last up to six months or longer.
We recommend a consultation visit with the doctor to discuss your medical history, and a clinical examination of the face. We will discuss the areas that will be treated and also obtain digital photographs. This consultation visit gives patients the opportunity to address any concerns that they may have, as well as answer specific questions.
Juvederm™ Facial Dermal Filler Procedure
The appearance of wrinkles and facial folds can be smoothed by adding structure and volume underneath and bringing sunken skin back up to the surface. Juvederm injectable gel is a smooth gel filler your doctor eases under your skin to instantly smooth out those wrinkles or folds that look like parentheses along the side of your nose and mouth. Results aren’t just instant, they’re so smooth and natural, everyone will notice but no one will know. Topical anesthetic cream and/or local anesthetics are used to make the treatment painless.
Your doctor will review with you what to expect following treatment with Juvederm™ injectable gel. Generally, you should avoid strenuous exercise, consumption of alcoholic beverages and extended exposure to sun or heat.
Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling and/or itching at the injection sites. If you have swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. If swelling and bruising occurs, it may last a few days. Swelling and bruising are usually minimal.
Chemical peel is helpful for wrinkles, light acne scarring and irregular pigmentation such as freckles and age spots. Pre-cancerous conditions such as keratoses (thick, rough, reddish growths) also respond well to this procedure.
There are several types of chemical peels:
- Light peels to remove superficial wrinkles
- Medium peels
- Deep peels for more severe conditions.
After thoroughly cleansing the skin, a small applicator is used to apply the chemical solution to an area of the face. Excess solution is removed and the procedure is repeated on other areas.
The amount of improvement varies and depends upon the initial condition of the patient’s skin. Significant improvement of damaged skin has been achieved, which can produce dramatic results.
A skin rejuvenation program is often used in conjunction with either chemical peels or laser wrinkle removal to reduce the fine wrinkles of the face, lighten areas of hyperpigmentation and produce a softer texture to the skin. The program can be accomplished separately or in conjunction with the other procedures listed here and is followed at home by the patient after a consultation and a treatment plan is established for the patient’s cosmetic needs. Our skin care department is dedicated to providing you with the latest and most effective skin treatments available.
We invite you to inquire about laser skin resurfacing and hope it can help you achieve smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin.
